Today we’re visiting one of my favorite coastal escapes that’s a fantastic destination for your next beach trip. We’re in Charleston – but it’s probably not a part of Charleston you’ve explored before. And it’s time we change that.

Welcome to that magical rarely visited world where the marsh meets the sea. We’re island hopping today courtesy of Charleston Outdoor Adventures, as we take a trip thousands of years back in time on their Shark Tooth and Fossil Hunting Tour.

We’re starting things off here at Bowen’s Island – an unpolished hidden gem tucked into the marshland. We’ll be back here later for a fantastic meal. But now, it’s time to cast off.

This crew offers an array of exciting experiences including boat tours, kayaking adventures, and kayak rentals.

Today we’re heading to wild and wonderful Morris Island in search of shark teeth and fossils that were around well before humans walked these sandy shores.

This unpopulated barrier island comes and goes with the tide. It’s only accessible by boat, and provides an up close and personal view of Morris Island lighthouse. Now – let the hunt begin!

Your exploration is led by your knowledgeable captain and guide as you stroll the beach in search of buried treasure… of sorts. It’s a fun and beautiful activity that is always sure to impress and amaze.

With your finds in tow it’s back to the boat as you set a course for a fantastic finale to celebrate with your fellow adventurers.

When you return from your expedition you’re right back here at Bowen’s Island – where this legendary oyster joint cooks up those beautiful bivalves better than anyone.

This place is a seafood fever dream. Of course there are the oysters – locally harvested in months that end in R. But the shrimp, the fish, the crabcakes – it’s all amazing. Situated on the most beautiful marsh-side setting you can imagine. It’s the perfect spot to raise a glass to good times, great food, and the memories of a day very well spent.
