When this old world starts getting me down and people are just too much for me to face, I climb way up to the top of the stairs and all my cares just drift right into space. On the roof it’s peaceful as can be. And there the world below can’t bother me. In the words of The Drifters: Let’s go… up on the roof.

Welcome to Asheville Rooftop Bar Tours. This city is known as the Land of Sky – and what better way to take in the views of the surrounding area than by wheeling your way from one amazing perch to the next with a craft cocktail or mocktail in hand and learning about the history and culture of this beautiful mountain town.

After working as a rural letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 38 years, founder Kaye Bentley decided to make the switch from driving around in the country to hopping from rooftop to rooftop in Western North Carolina’s biggest city. And we’re sure glad she did.

Because we get to come along for the ride. Asheville Rooftop Bar Tours has several tours to choose from – each featuring eye-popping stops along the way with a reserved seat featuring the best views waiting just for us. There are 8 rooftop bars that they choose from – each with a fun, different twist on the Asheville experience. And you get to visit 3 on your afternoon out, spending about 45 minutes at each stop. Today we’re visiting Capella on 9, Pillar, and the Flat Iron Rooftop.

On a warm summer day experiencing the cool mountain breeze with a cool drink in hand is a great way to spend an afternoon and evening in Asheville. If alcohol isn’t on your menu the mocktail scene here is really good. But you still have to be 21 to go on the tour.

While you’re wandering your way through the city your tour guide offers great insight into the stories of this art deco town. You can check out cool photos and vintage postcards of what Asheville looked like in the 1800’s and early 1900’s – all with a hand-crafted drink in hand and a smile on your face. And if this world starts getting you down, there’s room enough for two… up on the roof.
