High atop Lookout Mountain in the very northernmost reaches of Georgia sits a whimsical attraction that’s been welcoming visitors for nearly a century. It’s time for all of us to see Rock City.
Located just outside Chattanooga Tennessee, Rock City Gardens opened in 1932. A lot has changed here over the last nine decades. But the sweeping views and stunning rock formations have remained the same. Today, Rock City Gardens is a dynamic and fascinating destination for a wide variety of reasons – and we’re here to explore them all.
The central walk of the gardens known as the Enchanted Trail traverse over 4,000 feet of fun and beauty – winding its way through gorgeous plantlife, massive rock formations, sculpture, and more.
As you walk along there is so much fun to experience – like the 180-foot Swing-A-Long Bridge, The Rainbow Hall, leading to the spectacular High Falls, featuring one of the most iconic vistas in the southeast. Fairyland Caverns, the home of the gnomes, and of course, the views.
One of the key attractions right from the start with this gorgeous patch of ground is this amazing vista. You can see 7 states from here. And it’s absolutely stunning.
The wonders continue as you encounter the Hall of the Mountain King, with Ibsen the troll, fun throne room, and abundant mysteries. Fun cracks and crevices winding your way through the giant rocks that give this place its name, and seasonal attractions like the Rock City Raptors with these beautiful birds of prey.
Rock City’s first ever mass marketing campaign – painting upwards of 900 barns. And today, you can take some miniature ones home with you.
In this fast-paced, high-stress world we’re living in, we could all use a little whimsy. And that’s exactly what you get here at Rock City Gardens – along with natural wonders, gorgeous trails, sweeping views, and a healthy helping of wonder.
