When Hurricane Helene stalled out over the mountains of Western North Carolina, the rainfall was unprecedented. And Asheville’s vibrant River Arts District was under more than 24 feet of water – But now… it’s back.

This is Marquee. Welcome to a world of art under one roof. More than 350 vendors call this place home with practically every media you can imagine.

After the waters receded the artists got to work – not painting or sculpting… but mucking out, building back, and looking forward. The result? The beautiful, funky, inspiring Marquee is open for business – ready to welcome you for exploration.

So what is it? Well, it’s a lot of things. But mostly it’s a sprawling collection of galleries spread across 50,000 square feet of awesome. From incredible paintings… to amazing homegoods and furniture pieces… to spectacular sculpture and pottery… to the totally unexpected.

Occasionally the artists and makers will be here during business hours plying their craft and talking with guests. It’s a great way to learn about the art and the artists all at the same time.

The whole experience of Marquee is one that feels authentically Asheville. From the crashing sounds of the skate park next door to the graffiti-covered exterior to the local snacks on the shelves… this is a place that is a remnant of the old and a step into the new all at the same time.

And it’s still growing. Soon the bar will be open at one end. There are talks of a restaurant and coffee installation at the other. And they’re always on the lookout for new talent to come in and join their cast of artists.

Whether you’re visiting from out of town, or you’re an Asheville local ready to come see a revitalized River Arts District, Marquee is a must-stop on your next exploration of this arts-forward city and the collaborative culture that have made it famous around the world.
