In 1898, a school opened in the tiny town of Burnsville, North Carolina. It was a private Presbyterian institution known as the Stanley McCormick School – notable at the time for educating boys and girls… with dorms for each. But we’re not here for school. We’re here for a little R&R.

Welcome to the Terrell House Bed and Breakfast. Originally a girls dormitory, this home was built in 1905. The building became a B&B in the 1990’s. Today the house welcomes people from all over for a lovely night’s sleep and a continental breakfast to start the day.

The Terrell House features 5 guest rooms each with its own private bath, as well as lovely common areas and this fantastic front porch – your stepping off point for exploring some of the great spots in Burnsville.

Great spots like Page Pottery – an 11 minute drive from the Terrell House. Here husband and wife team Kristen and J.R. Page open their doors to guests to witness their making process as they create amazing works of art.

From decorative pieces to adorn your home to practical kitchenware to cheer up your dining routines, the pottery made here is every bit of this place – so you can take a little piece of Burnsville home with you.

Back on the path towards the Terrell House, downtown Burnsville awaits. Here plenty of shops, galleries, and dining opportunities beckon guests to explore this quaint mountain town.

As you wrap up your day back at the Terrell House the beautiful outdoor seating areas make for a great place to visit with fellow travelers and plan your next adventure in Yancey County.

Here in the shadow of Mount Mitchell – the highest peak east of the Rockies, this area is rich in outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, and paddling… and rich in cultural pursuits such as meeting wonderful creatives like Kristen and J.R. or exploring other artists on the Toe River Arts Studio Trail.

So, come for a stay, spend the night at the Terrell House, and explore all that this beautiful area has to offer.
